FUNCTIONAL NEUROLOGY
Improve How the Brain and Nervous System Function
A functional approach to identifying and correcting patterns of neurological dysregulation that may affect movement, cognition, balance, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and overall performance.
WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL NEUROLOGY?
Functional Neurology focuses on how the nervous system is functioning—not simply whether disease is present.
Many individuals experience symptoms despite normal imaging studies or medical testing.
These symptoms may reflect how the brain, nervous system, sensory systems, and body are communicating and regulating together.
Functional Neurology evaluates these patterns and identifies areas that may not be operating efficiently.
CONDITIONS WE COMMONLY SEE
Patients often seek care for:
dizziness and balance issues
post-concussion symptoms
chronic headaches and migraines
developmental challenges
retained primitive reflexes
sensory processing difficulties
cognitive fatigue and brain fog
coordination problems
stress regulation issues
vision tracking issues
chronic neurological symptoms
OUR APPROACH
At Jamieson Health Center, functional neurology is integrated into a broader brain-body model of care.
Evaluation may include:
neurological examination
eye movement testing
balance and coordination assessment
primitive reflex evaluation
sensory-motor testing
brain-body functional assessment
The goal is to identify patterns of neurological dysfunction and determine the most effective strategy for improving regulation and performance.
BEYOND ASSESSMENT ALONE
Assessment is important, but identifying a problem is only the first step.
Dr. Jamieson's approach focuses on finding the specific neurological patterns that may be disrupting normal function and then applying targeted interventions designed to help the nervous system reorganize more effectively.
This often includes work with:
sensory-motor integration
neurological regulation
structural influences on nervous system function
brain-body communication pathways
The objective is to help the nervous system function more normally rather than teaching the body to compensate around dysfunction.
Because these interventions are performed during care, many patients experience meaningful changes without the extensive exercise programs often associated with neurological rehabilitation.
HOW CARE BECOMES PERSONALIZED
No two nervous systems are exactly alike.
Although individuals may share similar symptoms or diagnoses, the underlying neurological patterns contributing to those symptoms can be very different.
Evaluation may include:
neurological regulation
sensory-motor function
primitive reflex integration
balance and coordination systems
structural influences on nervous system function
stress and adaptive capacity
Care is then designed around the findings of the evaluation rather than a standardized protocol.
Depending on the findings, care may focus on improving sensory processing, reflex integration, motor control, neurological regulation, or brain-body communication. It may also incorporate neurofeedback, nutritional strategies, or other brain-body approaches.
The goal is to create meaningful functional improvement by addressing the areas most relevant to that person's presentation.
IS FUNCTIONAL NEUROLOGY RIGHT FOR YOU?
Functional Neurology may be appropriate if you:
have neurological symptoms that have not fully responded elsewhere
are looking for a more individualized approach
want to better understand how your nervous system is functioning
are seeking improvements in brain-body regulation, performance, or resilience
