Advanced Neurofeedback
and
Autistic Spectrum Disorders
(ASD).
The rise in childhood neurological disorders, mostly described as
behavioral, social or learning disorders, has risen so sharply that it has become
the most serious threat to the health and well-being of our children this
country has ever faced. It is also one that is increasing in epidemic
proportions:
·
Autism, considered a rare
disorder a decade ago, affects 1 out of every 150 children born
·
1 in every 100 newborn baby
boys will be diagnosed with autism before the age of three, striking twice
as many boys as girls
·
In 2009, 1.5 million children
entered school, and 1 out of every 6 five or six year olds will be
diagnosed with some type of neurological disorder that affects their
ability to learn and socially interact
·
In 2008, doctors in the USA
wrote an estimated 20 million prescriptions for Ritalin to treat ADHD. The
use of Ritalin increased 800 percent between 1990 and 1998, even though it
has severe side effects and its long-term consequences on the developing
brain are still unknown.
·
One in every four children in special education has
Tourette’s Syndrome. Doctors believe that this condition, characterized by
uncontrolled verbal or muscle tics, is 50 to 75 percent more prevalent than
once believed.
Neal’s story.
“He
is definitely more focused and his concentration is
better. His schoolwork has improved, he listens to directions,
and now follows two- and three-step directions. He
does not get upset like he used to. His teachers also report
improvements in math and other work.”
Reported by the mother
about her autistic son after 20 sessions of Advanced Neurofeedback.
Abnormal
connectivity problems in the brain cause ASD.
Most people believe there is no cure
for Autistic Spectrum Disorders and psychiatric drugs like Ritalin and
others can just help ease the symptoms. New discoveries in brain science
however show that these children have an imbalance between their left and
right brain hemispheres.
When the two sides of the brain do not
mature at the same rate, electrical impulses between the two sides of the
brain get out of balance and interfere with communication. The brain shows
abnormal neural connectivity problems. Research finds that the brains of
most ASD kids show both areas with excessively high (hyper) and areas with
deficient (hypo) connectivity as well as magnitude, as shown in their qEEG
brain map. Proof now exists that the abnormal neural connectivity problems
are responsible for many behavioral, social and learning difficulties.
Comparing
Advanced Neurofeedback with other ASD treatments.
Several
clinical studies have been conducted with ASD children and qEEG guided neurofeedback
with great results. We recommend you read “Connectivity-Guided
Neurofeedback for Autistic Spectrum Disorders”, a paper by Robert Coben,
PhD.
In
his studies, Dr. Coben shows the effectiveness of qEEG guided neurofeedback
in comparison to other biomedical ASD treatments:

“The major findings of
our study included an 89% success rate with a 40% reduction in core
ASD symptoms, as a result of
assessment guided neurofeedback training over 20 sessions. Significant improvement was noted for the experimental
group on measures of attention, executive, visual perceptual and language
functions. IR imaging confirmed
elevated metabolic activity even within the initial treatment session.
Enduring change was indicated by enhanced metabolic activity, regulation
of output, and maintenance of changes within and across the 20th
treatment session. The benefit to harm ratio of 89:1, exceeded
all current treatments for ASD as surveyed by Rimland (2005). Seventy- six percent of the experimental group
had a decrease in hyper-connectivity patterns. Reduced hyper-connectivity as well as
enduring change in metabolic activity confirmed neuro-physiological
change following neurofeedback. “, Assessment-Guided Neurofeedback for Autistic Spectrum
Disorder, Robert Coben, PhD & Ilean Padolsky, PhD, 20007

Advanced
Neurofeedback helps heal Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
We
offer Advanced Neurofeedback therapy to adults and children suffering from
emotional, stress and learning disorders such as Autistic Spectrum
Disorders. We believe that unlike other ASD treatments, our Advanced
Neurofeedback therapy is:
|
·
integrative
|
Dr. Jamieson can help identify and
eliminate all interferences of healthy brain function. Many ASD children have
metabolic issues such as leaky gut, allergies and toxicity causing
inflammation in the brain. Neurotransmitter imbalances, head injuries as
well as emotional trauma can contribute to their condition. They may not
have integrated all of their primitive reflexes.
Dr. Jamieson offers integrative
treatments. He checks for food sensitivities and may recommend dietary
changes and nutritional supplementation to maximize the success and effectiveness
of your child’s brain training. He can also assist with the integration
of primitive reflexes and help eliminate the impact of trauma.
|
|
·
fast
and accurate
|
The qEEG brain map delivers the most
accurate assessment of how your child’s brain affects his or her behavior.
Since our office has direct access to a qEEG database, the report is
generated in a matter of minutes.
|
|
·
fast
and effective
|
Our therapy uses the latest state-of-the-art
expert systems based on years of research, highly optimized for different
conditions to enable fast results. Our therapy uses photic lights to
stimulate left and right brain hemispheres independently, either to
entrain or suppress brain patterns while receiving continuous visual and
auditory feedback. Many parents say they can see improvements after each
30 minute treatment.
|
|
·
integrated
and therefore more effective
|
Unlike in standard neurofeedback
where the therapist uses protocols based on your subjective symptoms, our
Advanced Neurofeedback uses qEEG data from your child’s brain map to
guide the therapy. Therefore different comorbidities of your child’s
condition can effectively be remediated.
|
|
·
easy
and fun
|
Your children will enjoy the therapy
as they watch their favorite movie, which is used as feedback. Unlike
other occupational and brain therapies, no cumbersome, boring, repetitive
exercises are needed and your children have fun and are relaxed.
|
|
·
drug
free
|
The therapy has no side-effects,
unlike Ritalin and other antipsychotic or sedative drugs.
|
|
·
proven
|
Our qEEG guided neurofeedback is
proven and based on years of clinical research.
|
|
·
permanent
|
Once your child’s brain normalizes
around the newly created physical pathways, it creates new plasticity.
Therefore the changes to your child’s brain become permanent.
|
|
·
therefore
very cost effective.
