Integrative Care for

Lifting Brain Fog and

Optimizing Brain Function.

Does your mind often feel foggy or cloudy? Do you have trouble thinking clearly? Do you feel that you don’t function well? Are you forgetful or detached? Do you feel absent minded? Do you often feel discouraged or depressed?

Brain fog affects thousands of children and adults. It contributes to cognitive as well as emotional issues such as problems at school and/or work, low self-esteem, and unhappy relationships. It can be the root cause of ADHD and autistic spectrum disorders. It is often a factor in crime and delinquency because it can cause intense frustration and an inability to function well in society.

Noah’s Story.

Before going to Jamieson Health Center (JHC), we had previously consulted another health center but were quickly turned off by their unpromising treatment plan and lack of genuine concern for our son’s welfare. Instead, when we chose JHC that’s where we learned about our son’s gluten sensitivity and metabolic issues. Our 5-year old son had substantial brain fog which impaired his emotions, and mental and social abilities.

The previous place only offered neurofeedback treatments whereas JHC’s approach is more comprehensive. They evaluate each case and make a customized treatment plan for each individual. JHC educated us on how diet can benefit or harm the brain. Based on their recommendations, we changed our son’s diet to eliminate gluten and some other foods. Along with his diet change, proper supplements and neurofeedback sessions we saw tremendous change in a matter of weeks. Before the treatment, our son was a socially unresponsive child with much learning difficulties. Now that his brain fog has been removed and his brain is stimulated, our son is talking a lot more at home and at school. He is also able to manage his emotions and interact with his classmates much better.

Brain fog can have many causes and is usually somewhat complex. The most common causes are nutritional and biochemical imbalances that affect the brain and the central nervous system of your body and lead to systemic inflammation.

We are combining functional medicine with applied kinesiology and qEEG brain mapping to help identify all the causes of your brain fog. Once the causes are identified, integrative treatments and qEEG neurofeedback will help lift your brain fog so you can live life to the fullest.

What is Brain Fog?

Brain fog can be described as feelings of mental confusion or a lack of mental clarity.  It can feel like a cloud that reduces your ability to think clearly.  It usually is present most of the time, meaning it does not come and go, although it may become better or worse depending on what you eat, or your state of rest and hydration. You just know that you do not function well, and your mind often seems foggy or cloudy.  This is not the same as dementia, mental retardation, anxiety, depression or other common mental symptoms.

Some people have had brain fog for most of their lives, and may even think their state of mind is normal.  In other cases, it comes on slowly with age or time.  In other patients, it may develop seemingly overnight, perhaps after a mild flu or other illness, or perhaps after a toxic exposure.

Diagnosis of brain fog is usually based on symptoms, of which some of the most common are: lack of mental clarity, mild memory loss, mental confusion, inability to perform simple mental tasks such as calculating or writing, and mental sluggishness.

A more precise diagnosis uses a qEEG brain map, which can indicate brain fog as elevated slow brain wave activity. It’s a sign that your brain is running too slow.

What causes Brain Fog?

Brain fog is usually a somewhat complex condition to treat, because many factors can contribute to it. Most of those factors are triggering inflammation in the brain, affecting neurons, brain tissues and myelin.

Here are some of the common causes:

·         Toxicity due to elevated levels of copper, mercury, aluminum, cadmium, lead or other metals

·         Exposure to toxic chemicals

·         Imbalances of trace minerals

·         Food chemicals such as MSG, aspartame, food coloring

·         Foods containing GMO’s

·         Tap water containing fluoride, chlorine, pesticide residues, etc.

·         Diets rich in starches, sugars and grains

·         Vegetarian diets, which are high in copper and low in zinc and other nutrients essential for the brain

·         Food sensitivities such as gluten, dairy and corn

·         Nutritional deficiencies such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, selenium, iodine, L-glutamine, L-taurine, choline, thiamine, B6, B12 and other B-complex vitamins, Omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin D, to name just a few.

·         Leaky gut and leaky blood brain barrier

·         Poorly executed cleansing programs lacking liver phase II detoxification

·         Marijuana or other recreational drugs

·         Pharmaceutical medications and drugs

·         Adrenal fatigue

·         Thyroid imbalances

·         Neurotransmitter imbalances

·         Chronic yeast or candida albicans overgrowth

·         Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia

·         Blood sugar imbalances

·         Low oxygen levels in the brain

·         Hidden viral infections such as Epstein-Barr

·         Brain parasites such as in Lyme’s disease

·         Psycho-social issues causing mental and emotional stress

As you can see from the long list of causes, addressing brain fog can be quite complex and you need a doctor who can find and address all the different aspects of brain fog.

How can Brain Fog be Treated?

Dr. Jamieson uses Applied Kinesiology  and if needed, hair mineral analysis, other saliva or blood tests and qEEG brain mapping to determine what exactly causes your brain fog. Once he figures out what the causes are, he can help you fix them using a combination of integrative chiropractic treatments, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, nutritional balancing, stress reducing techniques and qEEG neurofeedback.

Dr. Jamieson will customize a treatment plan appropriate for your specific situation.
