Dear patients, dear friends, Everyone seems very worried
about potential radiation coming across the Pacific from the reactor
explosions and possible meltdowns following the tsunami and earthquake in
Japan. After reading up on what others are saying, I wanted to share with you
my own view on how to protect yourself and your loved ones from the potential
fallout. Although it is clear that radiation
has been released from the plants, for us in the United States, including
northern California, I encourage you to stay calm. Given the vast distance of
thousands of miles between Japan and the United States, illness from
secondary radiation is very unlikely at this point in time. However, there are a few
things you need to know to prevent damage from radiation fallout. The media
currently focuses only on loading up on potassium iodide, which in my
opinion, is not a very effective strategy. First, in addition to Iodine-131,
there are other radioactive isotopes
such as Cesium, Strontium, Uranium, Plutonium and other radio-nuclides. The
media focuses ONLY on Iodine-131 for radiation fallout prevention. Second,
loading up on potassium iodide (KI) as
they suggest, sounds like a good idea,
except that KI-dosing is only effective for about 24 hours. Dosing more than
twice causes toxicity and serious imbalances in the endocrine system, and
severely disrupts your blood sugar balance. Iodine overload symptoms will be
intense and harder to manage and correct than what you’re trying to prevent
in the first place. Patients with thyroid disorders, such as Hashimoto’s and
Grave’s disease, should not take iodine. KI is rapidly becoming in short
supply across America, and unless you are in the immediate vicinity of a
nuclear accident, this is really not an effective strategy. So what can you do? As with any toxicity (radioactive, heavy
metal or other), boosting and maintaining a healthy immune system is first
priority. Only then is it possible to avoid toxic reactions and illnesses and
excrete the toxic substances from your body. Here is how: 1.
The
most important thing to do is to increase your glutathione levels and optimize
your glutathione recycling system. Unfortunately, taking glutathione orally
is inefficient and therefore not effective. However, your body makes and
recycles glutathione. Therefore take the supplement Glutathione Recycler from Apex. It contains N-Acetyl-Cysteine, Alpha Lipoic Acid and
L-Glutamine to rapidly metabolize intracellular glutathione. It also contains
Selenium, Cordyceps, Centella
and Silybum to optimize the recycling system of
glutathione. A glutathione cream like Oxicell from
Apex can be used topically to increase glutathione in the tissues of the
thyroid. Once your glutathione system is protected, you can consume foods
and additional supplements to bind with toxic metals and help excrete them
from your body (chelation). But again, never ever chelate with a low glutathione status, since this would
be devastating! 2.
I would
recommend daily supplementation with SP Cataplex F Tablets and SP Cal-Ma Plus as
prevention. This has been successfully used for post-Chernobyl victims for
over 20 years. Cataplex F is a good source of iodine.
Cal-Ma Plus contains dessicated parathyroid gland, which is the only chelator of nuclear metals known to me. Anyone can take
this long term without the side effects of Potassium Iodide. In
addition: 3.
Stay away from
sugars, which increase oxidative load and weakens the immune system. You cannot
afford this right now. 4.
Protect
your thyroid by eating a healthy diet, rich in natural iodine (not potassium
iodide). Eat seafood twice per week. Egg yolks from pasture eggs are also a
great source of iodine. 5.
Consume enough foods or supplement with the essential
Macro-minerals (Ca, Mg, K, etc.) & Trace-Minerals (Iodine, Zn, Cu, Bn, Se, etc.) to occupy the receptor sites in the various
tissues and to inhibit the uptake of the radioactive metals. 6.
Add foods that
contain seaweeds, miso, high bioflavanoid
foods, garlic, cilantro, and chlorella to your diet. These are all natural chelators and are radio-protective. To summarize, don’t panic but stay focused on being healthy.
Protect your thyroid. Boost your immune system by maintaining optimal
glutathione levels. Chelate only when in top shape.
Avoid sugar and eat healthy! Yours in good health, Dr. Samuel Jamieson, D.C. |
Protect yourself from radiation. Why does the
media suggest that you take potassium iodide? If you are within 10-50 miles of a reactor meltdown,
radioactive iodine (iodine-131) will connect to any and all iodine receptor sites
that have no iodine on them. This is a serious problem because,
according to Dr. David Brownstein, over 90 percent of people in North America
are iodine deficient. This leaves them incredibly vulnerable to radioactive
iodine, which is one of the principle forms of radiation given off in nuclear
accidents and from nuclear weapons. By taking a dose of about 130 mg of
potassium iodide (KI), the receptor sites are filled and there is nowhere for
the radioactive iodine to be absorbed. As Dr. Leah Remeika
Dugan describes it, KI fills up all the chairs and when the music stops,
there is nowhere for the radioactive iodine to go. Why is taking
potassium iodide not an effective strategy? Loading up on iodine sounds like a good idea, except that
KI-dosing is only effective for about 24 hours. Taking two or more doses causes
severe toxicity and serious imbalances in the endocrine system while severely
disrupting your blood sugar balance. One dose is likely to cause real trouble
for anyone with Hashimoto's and Grave’s disease. Although KI is rapidly becoming
in short supply across America, unless you are in the immediate vicinity of a
nuclear accident, this is really not an effective strategy. On top of that, uranium, iodine, cesium, and
plutonium have half-lives measured in years, so what do we do after the
first 24-48 hours? Glutathione
stands in the gap. Glutathione
(GSH) is a tri-peptide compound that acts as an immune modulator, antioxidant
and hepatic detoxification substrate. Glutathione is the main protecting
antioxidant for cellular mitochondria. The glutathione
system is the first line of defense of your immune system. During oxidative stress
e.g. toxicity from radiation, glutathione protects and quenches the oxidation
and inflammation. Immune activation only happens when glutathione levels are
depleted. So the goal is to eliminate and excrete radioactive metals from your
body without the activation of the immune system. This is only possible when there
is enough glutathione to stand in the gap. (see pub1 and pub2). The bad news is
that taking glutathione orally is a very inefficient and therefore an
ineffective way to try to increase your glutathione levels in the cells. The
good news is that your body makes and recycles glutathione. The supplement Glutathione Recycler from Apex
supports just that. It contains N-Acetyl-Cysteine,
Alpha Lipoic Acid and L-Glutamine to rapidly metabolize
intracellular glutathione. It also contains Selenium, Cordyceps,
Centella and Silybum to
optimize the recycling system of glutathione. A transdermal glutathione cream like Oxicell from Apex can be used topically to increase glutathione in the tissues
of the thyroid. Protect your
thyroid. The most preventable risk of radiation is to the thyroid, and the best way to support it is to regularly consume sea vegetables and fish. Egg yolks, particularly pasture eggs, are also a good source of iodine. Unrefined sea salt has some iodine. These foods are especially important for pregnant women and small children. Seawater contains iodine so almost any product of the sea will supply iodine. For many reasons, too numerous to discuss here, I do not recommend iodized salt even though it supplies iodine. In addition, I suggest using
glutathione cream like Oxicell from Apex topically to
increase glutathione levels of the thyroid, so nuclear waste can be excreted
without immune activation. Eat sea vegetables
and miso. Spirulina and chlorella
were used heavily by the Russians after the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster.
The Japanese love their miso soup that was said to
help some of their citizens survive the fallout after the bombings of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Tan Koon Peng from
Singapore writes: "Miso is effective for
detoxifying your body of radiation. During World War II, two hospitals that
were located side by side were hit with atomic radiation, in one hospital
people consumed Miso and all of them survived while
many people in the other hospital that did not take miso
died. Miso is rich in vitamin B therefore it is
suitable for vegetarians who are in shortage of vitamin B. For best results
do not cook miso.” Supplements to take as prevention. ·
Cal-Ma Plus (4-6/day) from Standard Process
contains dessicated parathyroid gland which is key
to helping your body chelate the major radioactive
isotopes such as strontium and cesium, which will aggregate in the bones
causing even worse damage. ·
Cataplex F (4/day) from
Standard Process provides a milder release of iodine without the side effects of
potassium iodide. Baking soda can help detoxify
the kidneys from uranium exposure. According to Dr.
Mark Sircus of the International Medical Veritas Association, the kidneys are usually the first
organs to show chemical damage upon uranium exposure. Old military manuals
suggest doses or infusions of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to help
alkalinize the urine if this happens. This makes the uranyl
ion less kidney-toxic and promotes excretion of the nontoxic
uranium-carbonate complex.
The oral administration of sodium bicarbonate diminishes the severity of the
changes produced by uranium in the kidneys. For more
