Volume 2, Number 3

Dear friends and patients,

Heavy or irregular periods. Hot flashes or night sweats. Breast tenderness, cysts or fibroid tumors. Cramping, bloating, irritability and fatigue. Many of you together with millions of other women suffer in silence from these conditions. Too many think the discomfort is just “part of being a woman”.

It isn’t. Yes, it’s common, but it’s not normal.

Each is a sign of Estrogen Dominance – a condition that can lead to cancer or other serious diseases. If you are estrogen dominant, you must discover what causes it and how to beat it.

If you are suffering from any of the symptoms discussed here, I suggest you take an Expanded Female Hormone Panel saliva test. This multi-sample test will accurately measure free levels of estrogen, progesterone, FSH, LH, testosterone and DHEA during your cycle. It will confirm whether you are estrogen dominant and help to determine the right treatment.

As a first step, it is very important to eliminate any excess levels of hormones from your body and to improve estrogen metabolism. That’s why I recommend a 21-day Purification Program, high in cruciferous vegetables and whole food fiber.

In addition and to lay a good foundation, we also need to make sure your digestion is strong, your blood sugar is managed properly with a healthy diet, and any physical and emotional stress is eliminated. Holistic chiropractic treatments including supplements will restore the balance of the reproductive and adrenal systems and your symptoms will disappear.

Yours in good health,

Dr. Samuel Jamieson, D.C.

Suffering from PMS or menopausal symptoms?

Find out if you are estrogen dominant.

What is Estrogen Dominance?

Estrogen dominance is a condition in which a woman can have deficient, normal or excessive levels of estrogen, but has too little progesterone to balance the estrogen level.  Estrogen dominance is the main issue with cycling women and causes many of these common conditions and symptoms:

·          Anxiety, irritability, anger, agitation

·          Cramps, heavy bleeding, prolonged bleeding, clots

·          Water retention, weight gain, bloating

·          Breast tenderness, lumpiness, enlargement, fibrocystic breasts

·          Mood swings, depression

·          Headaches & migraines

·          Food cravings, sweet cravings, chocolate cravings

·          Muscle pains, joint pains, back pains

·          Acne

·          Foggy thinking, memory difficulties

·          Hot flashes and night sweats

·          Fat gain, especially in the abdomen, hips and thighs

·          Irregular periods

·          Decreased libido

·          Gall bladder problems

·          Infertility

·          Insomnia

·          Osteoporosis

·          Endometriosis

·          Polycystic ovaries

·          Uterine fibroids

·          Cervical dysplasia

·          Breast, uterine, cervical or ovarian cancer

What causes Estrogen Dominance?

Estrogen dominance is a serious condition that can lead to cancer and other serious diseases.

Many factors can contribute to estrogen dominance:

·          Stress

·          Xenohormone exposure

·          Use of oral or injected contraceptives

·          Conventional Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

·          Adrenal Fatigue

·          Low functioning thyroid

·          Poor diet usually high in carbs and sugar, and low in fat

·          Consumption of trans-fats

·          Nutritional deficiencies

·          Blood sugar imbalances

·          Luteal insufficiency meaning insufficient ovarian progesterone production

·          Cycles where menstruation occurs but no ovulation

·          Obesity

Avoid Xenoestrogens found in the environment.

Harmful man-made estrogens called xenoestrogens are found everywhere in the environment: in cosmetics, soaps, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, commercially grown meat and produce to name a few. You eat and breathe xenoestrogens and your skin absorbs them. They interfere with the normal balance of your cycle by mimicking estrogen dominance.

Most diets are rich in xenoestrogens. Even “healthy” foods like lean chicken may contain steroids and antibiotics used to unnaturally speed that chicken to market-ready maturity. Take conscious steps to reduce your xenoestrogen exposure by washing produce thoroughly, and whenever possible buy organic foods.

Estrogen Dominance and cancer.

Every woman produces estrogen, but not every woman processes estrogen in the same way. When the liver and the gut fail to metabolize and excrete estrogen on a monthly basis, estrogen may get reabsorbed and stored in the fat tissue. This can promote tumor development, especially in the breast.

Therefore always add estrogen balancing foods and supplements to your diet. Research has shown that women who eat cruciferous vegetables have an overall reduced risk of breast cancer. Vegetables such as kale, broccoli and Brussels sprouts contain compounds to help metabolize estrogen. Organically grown, bio-available kale and Brussels sprouts are now available as supplements, which we offer as SP Complete, SP Green Food, and Cruciferous Complete to our patients.

In addition, adding whole food fiber (for more information, see our Whole Food Fiber product) to your diet will keep you regular and ensure toxins and hormones are more quickly eliminated as waste products.
